One night at the Copacabana when Joey is discussing Jake's victory with journalists, he sees Vickie with Salvy and speaks with her that she's giving up on his brother. Jake also tells Joey to keep an eye on Vickie as he feared that she would cheat on him with other men.

Later, Jake starts becoming more angry, such as lashing out at Joey for making him put on 168 pounds when he's still fighting in the boxing tournament and becomes more abusive towards his wife Vickie.

Joey introduces his brother to Vickie and they begin a relationship and eventually get married and Joey is seen at their wedding and spending time with their children. When Jake notices a young girl named Vickie, he becomes smitten with her and divorces his original wife to pursue a relationship with her. While they talk, Jake orders Joey to hit him, but he refuses, but eventually relents and wraps his hand with a towel and hits Jake repeatedly by Jake's orders, but stops when he sees Jake's cuts from his previous boxing match. He was seen talking to his friend, Salvy Batts and discusses a potential shot with him for the middleweight title and comes across Jake fighting with his wife over her overcooking his steak. He is shown to be well-intentioned and also tried to keep Jake grounded for his own sake and deals with his abuse. He is the younger brother of Jake LaMotta who trained him in boxing between 19. He was portrayed by Joe Pesci who also portrayed Leo Getz in the Lethal Weapon franchise. He was based on the real-life person of the same name. Supportive Sibling Joey LaMotta is the deuteragonist of the 1980 psychological sports film Raging Bull.
